The main square of Banská Bystrica, Slovakia

100cm x 140cm | Acrylic on Canvas

When a client asked me to paint his hometown in Slovakia, I was honored and a little nervous. I tried to find as many photos from different angles as I could to piece together this ‘Copper City’.

I went through multiple versions and eventually had to start over on a new canvas to try to get the composition right. I chose a palette built around the color copper to pay homage to the city’s heritage and tried to weave the metallic glow throughout all of the architecture.

This commission was a real exercise in trust…..the family didn’t want to see the work until it was finished. Seeing their delight when this piece was finally delivered made all of the effort (and minor frustration) along the way worth it.
